Is Jurassic Park River Adventure Closing at Islands of Adventure for a Jurassic World Refresh?

As we predicted several months back, Universal Studios Hollywood has announced that Jurassic Park: The Ride will be closing on September 3rd, 2018.  This is to make way for the anticipated Jurassic World Ride headed to Universal Studios in 2019. However, everyone is now wondering – will Jurassic Park River Adventure be closing at Islands of Adventure to also swap over to Jurassic World?

Now we have talked quite extensively about this attraction in great detail. Everything from who is building the new dinos, down to how each scene along the ride path could change. Now I’m not saying there are spoilers in this article (there definitely are), but we have a pretty good idea of exactly how the new Jurassic World Ride is going to break down when it reopens in Summer 2019.

That answer is a definite no. Jurassic Park River Adventure has no current plans to change to Jurassic World, like they are doing out in Hollywood.  Why? Well, as we have stated here at Theme Park University in the past, there are plans already starting to move forward for a new Jurassic Park roller coaster headed to Islands of Adventure.  We have a pretty solid idea who the manufacturer is, the footprint and even the type of coaster and theme. We are going to dig into all of that in a future article.

Now, this all comes back to that new attraction coming every year to every park deal that we have covered so much. Since this new coaster is slated to open at Islands of Adventure in 2020, it already fills the slot for the “new attraction for the year” title. Of course, 2019 we know that will be the opening of Hagrid’s roller coaster in Hogsmeade. Therefore, the soonest a new Jurassic World Ride could open in Islands of Adventure is 2021.

At this point, that is highly unlikely for a few reasons. One, despite how much money Comcast is investing in their theme parks, it doesn’t grow on trees. You do have to be fiscally responsible. Secondly, keep in mind there is a new Zelda land headed to Islands of Adventure and that will most likely open in 2021 or 2022. Since it is so far out, a new Jurassic World Ride could indeed shuffle things around after Universal sees how popular it will be, it is possible things will change.  However, as of right now, it’s not on the current slate of upcoming projects.
