Who’s ready for more Fast & Furious: Supercharged attractions? Answer: No one. Literally, no one. We’ve covered many times on Theme Park University how Fast & Furious: Supercharged is a dumpster fire of an attraction at Universal Studios Florida. Now we are confident it will not be duplicated at Universal Studios Beijing.
As usual, until Universal actually announces it, any information contained in this article is considered rumor. In this case, we don’t expect Universal Studios Parks to mention this at all. Instead, we expect them to quietly forget that this announcement even happened in the first place.
What announcement? On May 2, 2018, Universal Parks and Resorts pulled out all the stops to hype up the big attraction for the year: Fast & Furious Supercharged. At the event, attended by stars like Vin Diesel, it was announced that the very same attraction they were opening in Florida would also be cloned in the upcoming Universal Studios Beijing!
Which, if you think about it, is a bit odd. At that point (and even as of the writing of this article), Universal hasn’t formally announced what intellectual properties are going into Universal Studios Beijing. More importantly, no one had even ridden Supercharged at Universal Studios Florida at that point (the press was just about to be let in).
To say they jumped the gun on the announcement is an understatement. Supercharged is consistently rated as one of the worst (if not THE worst) attraction at Universal Orlando, according to what we’ve heard. Why not close down this turd of an attraction? Well, because that turd cost you a lot of money. More importantly, Fast & Furious is one of the biggest franchises in box office history, so despite the ratings, it is a business driver.
Which ultimately boils down to what this article is about: why make another turd? You don’t. Thus, Universal Studios Beijing won’t be getting a Fast & Furious: Supercharged attraction as Universal execs originally announced. However, we fully believe you will see Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson and the gang represented somehow at Universal Studios Beijing, just not in the form of a Supercharged attraction. Not to mention, how long do you think Supercharged will last at Universal Orlando considering its low rating? Your thoughts?
