BREAKING: Eighth Voyage of Sindbad Closing at Islands of Adventure Sep 15 2018

According to several sources within Universal Orlando, the plug has been pulled on the Eighth Voyage of Sindbad Stunt Show at Islands of Adventure. An original attraction that opened with the park in 1999, this marks one of Orlando’s longest running stunt shows and one of the longest in theme park history.

According to sources, on Thursday, Aug. 16, 2018 the cast of The Eighth Voyage of Sindbad were brought into a meeting and were told the news of the shows closing. Management cited low guest scores and higher operating costs as reasons for the closure. It was also mentioned that the final performance would be on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2018.  Keep in mind that as of the writing of this article, the closing of the show has not been officially announced by Universal Orlando but is expected to on Friday, Aug. 17, 2018.

Unlike Terminator 2:3D which closed because Universal had a replacement attraction in the works, this is not the case for the Eighth Voyage of Sindbad closing. At least not imminently. The theater has been earmarked for future development at Islands of Adventure, but that construction will not begin for several years. We will cover the new area in another article here at Theme Park University (we have already hinted at it a few times). In the meanwhile, what do you think of the show closing? Was it overdue? Do guests not enjoy stunt shows like they did nearly 20 years ago? Let us know your thoughts.
