Blue Man Group Extremely Unlikely To Return To Universal Orlando

When Blue Man Group opened at Universal Orlando in 2007, it was meant to draw people away from Cirque du Soleil at Walt Disney World. While the show drew in large crowds during the beginning of the run, within the last few years interest has fizzled out. Now we are hearing Blue Man Group may never return to Universal Orlando.

Even prior to the pandemic, Blue Man Group rarely had sell out crowds for the last few years. Generally, seats were only filled in roughly half of the house. Often times, the entire back section would have a giant curtain pulled in front of it and guests who booked in that section would just get a complimentary upgrade.

The major difference between running Blue Man Group and La Nouba (Disney Springs former Cirque du Soleil show) is that Blue Man Group was a far cheaper show to run. From the talent to the band and even the tech crew, it cost a fraction to run BMG at Universal Orlando, thus lower crowds were considered financially viable for the show.

However, what I’m hearing is the show will not be returning to Universal CityWalk in 2021 or ever. It seems that Universal wants to take the soundstage back and make it part of Universal Studios Florida again. Keep in mind, it was used for Nickelodeon when the park opened in 1990 and was then taken away from the overall capacity of the park to add Blue Man Group in 2007.

As of right now, it sounds like Universal Studios Florida would add another show to the former Blue Man Group theater in 2022. Keep in mind, they are still planning on adding at least one new attraction to Universal Orlando every year. The pandemic clearly put a pause on developments they were considering. Now it looks like they could add an existing Universal show (not found in Orlando) to Universal Studios Florida. What could that be? We will discuss that in a future article.

However, since the theater already has 1000 seats, a stage and a lobby holding area, it makes sense that this could be a quick add to Universal Studios Florida.

Meanwhile, are you sad to see Blue Man Group go? Or are you glad that the theater will be used in Universal Studios Florida again?
