Would You Go On A Theme Park Ride Based on “The Office”?

Fifteen years after the debut of “The Office”, the show is still a cult classic amongst fans. What better way to celebrate than a concept for an attraction featuring Jim, Pam, Dwight, Michael Scott and the gang?

Luckily, our friend Brittany Markham has designed an entire “The Office: The Ride” attraction complete with queue experience, pre-show, ride and gift shop! As you may recall, Brittany is a theme park designer who created the great “How to Become an Imagineer” explainer video which we featured here at TPU.

I spoke with Markham about her inspiration for designing this attraction. Why “The Office”? She’s a huge fan! Britney said: “The Office” is celebrating 15 years this year (March 24) and many of the cast have said that the show is more popular now than it was when it first aired. I believe it! There is such a huge fan base for the show but as far as I’m aware, the only place for fans to come together and be nerdy about it is on social media (Office memes are the best!!).

For this concept, (and most of my themed entertainment concepts), the story preceded and determined the tech/guest experience. This was just a lot of fun to write and design, and required hours of rewatching show clips and episodes (no complaints there). If this were actually going forward, I would love to see the cast improv this. I feel like I’ve got rough bones of a script, but there is a level of humor that I think is only achievable by Steve Carrell & co.!

Personally, I feel like an attraction based on “The Office” is a no-brainer. Based on the video below, I personally feel like this ride could be easily placed into a current attraction at Universal Studios Florida. Check it out below!

Would you visit a theme park to ride an attraction based on “The Office”? Note: this is only a story concept. It has no affiliation with the cast of the show and/or NBC/Universal.
