With most of the focus in the world of theme parks being in Shanghai Disneyland in 2016, there is one massive park opening that might trump Disney. MotionGate Dubai is only part of a massive theme park complex opening with very high profile attractions.
Motiongate Dubai is broken up into five lands: Studio Central, Lionsgate, Sony Pictures Studios, Dreamworks and Smurfs Village.
A recent video released by the park showcases just how massive the park will be. There are dozens of attractions and all from intellectual properties that Americans will recognize.
Sony Pictures Studio will feature attractions from movies like Hunger Games, The Green Hornet, Underworld, Hotel Transylvania, and, something I am personally excited about, Ghostbusters.
While they haven’t revealed what kind of attraction this will be, the officials at motiongate Dubai say that it is a first-of-its-kind. Ghostbusters is enough of a reason for me to buy a ticket. I’m sold. Don’t need to see anything else. However, we shall press on.
To the right is the castle from Hotel Transylvania, which will house one attraction, and to the left is a free fall attraction themed to the film Zombieland.
Smurfs Land is designed after the film starring Neil Patrick Harris. It will feature unique dining and shopping opportunities as well as children’s playgrounds.
Dreamworks may be the most fascinating area of the park in what they call a “theme park in a box.” All built indoors in a giant sound stage, it will feature rides, shows, merchandise and even a full-service restaurant from Dreamworks animation films. Seen above is a section from Madagascar.
In addition, Kung Fu Panda will have a 3D presentation in addition to a mini-land within the Dreamworks building.
