I think we all know by now that the attractions industry has been hit with a heavy blow due to the pandemic. Personally, I’m a numbers guy. Sure, we know some parks have yet to reopen and many others haven’t even come close to recovering.
Just how bad are things? The International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) released a study on just how bad the industry has been hit.

I highly recommend reading the report in its entirety which can be found here. According to IAAPA, the attractions industry is facing its greatest crisis since World War II. Keep in mind, California and Florida were hit particularly hard since they are the states with the largest number of theme parks and attractions.

It’s important to recognize that these numbers are people. Sure, you may see it as a certain percentage decline and tens of thousands of jobs. However, and I can’t stress this enough, these are people with families who many have devoted their life to theme parks and attractions.

Whether they sold ice cream bars or designed cutting edge attractions, finding a job outside the industry in an area dominated by theme parks is not easy to do when it’s all you’ve ever known.
The folks who say “just find another job” clearly don’t know how difficult that can be and will most likely be the ones upset when parks reopen and the hours are cut and/or prices go up due to understaffing and having to pay overtime. What can ya do?
