If you’ve ever been in a theme park parking lot during the middle of the summer, you know just how much sun that blacktop soaks up on those hot summer days. In Florida, no theme park has yet to harness that energy for the greater good… until now, thanks to Legoland Florida.
On Earth Day 2016, the park has announced a new project that will put a 2-megawatt solar energy farm right in the middle of their preferred parking lot. The new eco-friendly addition is in partnership with Tampa Electric and will start construction very soon.
When operational later this year, the solar photovoltaic installation is estimated to produce enough electricity to power up to 250 homes annually, while shading more than 600 vehicles. Tampa Electric will own and maintain the solar array, with all power entering TECO’s electrical grid for the benefit of its more than 725,000 customers, including Legoland Florida Resort.
