It’s been a little over ten years since the infamous Hard Rock Park opened and quickly closed in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Since the closure in 2008, it was rebranded to Freestyle Music Park the following year by a group of Russian investors.
However, Freestyle Music Park also suffered the same fate and operated for less than a full season only to be shuttered for good in 2009. Since then, the property has been owned by that same Russian investment group known as FPI US LLC.
As such, while there have been several investment groups coming in to “kick the tires” so to speak on the abandoned theme park, none have actually bought until recently. As of December 28, 2018 the property has been sold from FPI US to a FTPP Bishop Parkway LLC. What does that mean? No one knows for sure.
What we do know is this FTPP Bishop Parkway LLC was formed in October 2018, presumably with the intention to purchase the property. Bishop Parkway is the main roadway just outside of Hard Rock Park that travelers use to get to the actual beach of Myrtle Beach.
Will it be used to build a new theme park in that same location? Highly unlikely. All of the rides were sold off to various parks overseas years ago. Myrtle Beach, from everything I have heard, isn’t interested in another theme park potentially failing within their still popular tourist destination. Regardless of what happens, we will follow up with developments as soon as they become available!
