One of the trends we have noticed in 2018 is theme parks are becoming much more accommodating to people with autism. Recently, Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio added a new sensory room designed for people with autism who might need a place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the midway.
This new sensory room is located just next to the First Aid station in the park. It features calming color tones, non-obtrusive lighting and specialty seating. Including the oversized beanbag chairs seen above.
In addition, guests can check out “sensory packs” from this location in Cedar Point. It features headphones, non-verbal communication cards, fidget toys and weighted lap blankets. If you need more information, you can ask guest services and they have more info on attractions that use strobe lighting, loud noises and other information to help plan your day.
My understanding is that more Cedar Fair Park could be adding these sensory friendly rooms in the near future. This is a fantastic step forward for so many families who want to travel to a park who have someone suffering from autism. Bravo to Cedar Point for being an industry leader in this area!
