Studio City Resort Opens in Macau

After years of planning and development, Studio City Resort and Casino opened in Macau on October 27, 2015. The Hollywood-inspired mega resort features attractions, live entertainment, 1,600 rooms and a one-of-a-kind ferris wheel.

Studio City was designed by Gary Goddard and his team at the Goddard Group, who have developed attractions for Universal Orlando, Six Flags and dozens of themed entertainment companies around the world.

The centerpiece for the $3.2 billion resort is the world’s first Ferris wheel in the shape of the number 8.

In American culture, the number seven is considered to be a lucky number, especially when it comes to gambling.

However, the Chinese believe the number eight is a lucky number, thus the reason behind the design of the Ferris wheel.  The Golden Wheel has 17 capsules and takes riders on a ride that also looks like a film reel.
