“Somnai” Combines Immersive Theater with Augmented and Virtual Reality

It’s been a while since we have covered immersive theater here at Theme Park University. The reality is, it has become a category all by itself with new productions popping up weekly around the globe.  While they are still mostly confined to major cities, there is some amazing work being done. For example, “Somnai” is a new immersive work debuting just outside of London could be the most technologically advanced we have seen thus far.

“Somnai” is a 90-minute experience for small groups of up to 6 people who will traverse a custom-made world to analyze their dreams. This event will take place in a former two-story warehouse where participants use a combination of virtual reality, augmented reality and live-performance immersive theater as they journey deeper into the story.

Each show is different from the choices you and your group make influences your journey. The purpose is to learn about lucid dreaming and take control of that state-of-consciousness. If what I’m reading is correct, the artificial intelligence “computer system” that guides you through the journey may have sinister motives and things could take a turn for the worse.  Check out the trailer for “Somai” in the video below!

If you’re going to be in the United Kingdom in the Spring of 2018, check out their website by clicking here. I’d love to hear about your experiences!
