Hershey’s Chocolate Tour Dark Ride Getting Makeover in 2016

One of the greatest dark rides of all time is getting a facelift in the not-so-distant future. Hershey’s Chocolate Tour, which debuted in 1973, has been updated several times over the years and continues to be one of my all time favorite rides anywhere. The ride sits just outside of Hersheypark in a stand alone attraction called Hershey Chocolate World that I actually prefer over the park itself.

During my visit to Hershey Chocolate World, marketing manager Todd Kohr told me they were just starting the planning stages to upgrade Hershey’s Chocolate Tour. The last refresh took place ten years ago under the guidance of The Goddard Group.

One thing we do know is the ride vehicles will be upgraded and branded to look like various Hershey candy products. It stands to reason that in the near future, you might actually to take a spin a Hershey Kiss. While details are few and far between at this time, we do know that they are planning on keeping the ride free and those cows are sticking around in one form or another. For now, if you’ve never been on the ride before, click the video below to take a spin!

The ride is closed  through the end of February and the refresh is expected to be completed by Summer 2016. We will keep you up-to-date on any information as it rolls our way!

This excites me greatly! I was born in 72 and Hershey has been my home park my entire life. It was the very first dark ride I experienced as a kid and it has always held a place in my heart to this very day. Something that has been driving me crazy as of late was a refurb that happened to this ride in the late 80s/early 90s that did not last long. Each vehicle had a full size television mounted to it and the ride featured a robot named CP. This was very short lived….only 1 or 2 years. This was long before the cows.

I can find no photos, videos or stories about the ride during this era and I’m starting to think I’m crazy! Being I have studied this attraction since I was 5, I know darn well it wasn’t imagined. My first trip to Epcot was 1988 and I remember coming home and going to Hershey to experience this new version…please tell me it DID exist and why it didn’t last! 🙂
