One of the most anticipated attractions to open in Shanghai Disneyland is Voyage to the Crystal Grotto, which lies just behind Storybook Castle. Today we bring you photos and video of the attraction, which is slated to open June 16 with the rest of Shanghai Disneyland.
The story is a bit awkward, but basically a magical dragonfly leads a boy into a cave where he finds a mysterious crystal. Along the way, he relives some of his favorite Disney movie memories via notable scenes filled with fountains. Yup.
The boats are nearly identical to the size, capacity and driving capability at a Jungle Cruise boat. There is very little live spiel here as most of the audio is prerecorded. The driver simply maneuvers the boat from scene to scene (which is on a central track similar to JC).
While there is nothing particularly groundbreaking about Voyage to the Crystal Grotto, it is charming in its own way and the fountains are dazzling to watch.
Keep in mind, Chinese audiences are still getting used to what characters live in the Disney universe and what characters are from Warner Brothers, DreamWorks, etc.
One of my favorite details in the ride is this globe. Notice the location of the pink flowers, which represent where various Disney parks are located around the world.
