Cirque du Soleil La Nouba Performer Critically Injured in Accident – Needs Assistance

Tragically, a performer at Cirque du Soleil at Walt Disney World’s Disney Springs was rushed to the hospital after a life threatening accident during rehearsal on Thursday, October 20, 2016. Karina Silva Poirier fell from some fabric that was suspended from a cable above the stage. For those familiar with Cirque’s La Nouba show, this is the part of the performance where several performers dangle from above in the act of the show known as “Aerial Ballet in Silks.”

The fall from about 30 feet in their air caused severe trauma, as she landed head first . She broke all the bones in her face and fractured her skull, as well as broke two ribs close to her collar bone. Poirier was rushed to the hospital where she is still being treated for her life-threatening injuries. She is currently in stable condition, but as of the writing on this article, she is still in a coma.

For fans of America’s Got Talent, those of you who watched season 11 will remember a duo called Deadly Games. Alfredo Silva, the knife thrower from that incredible act, is the brother of Karina and is going through an extremely difficult time as seen on a recent Facebook live video. This family is sixth-generation circus performers and entertaining is in their blood. Often times what may look easy on stage can take years of preparation for what might be several minutes of entertainment. As this situation has proven, things can go wrong.
