We are hearing some sad news tonight as several restaurants at Epcot have laid off their workers.
It seems that employees of the Palmas Group restaurants were let go on Friday as a result of downsizing. These were third party Disney employees that staffed San Angel Inn, La Cantina De San Angel, La Cava Del Tequilla and Choza de Margarita. Disney uses third party operators to staff several restaurants at Walt Disney World including resorts, theme parks and Disney Springs.
This does not mean these restaurants will not open when Epcot reopens to guests. They cut their management staff in half at all of their locations within the Mexico pavilion at the park.
Plus, all part time tipped positions were given the option to either move to full time non-tipped or accept a lay off. A similar option was given to part time culinary To transfer time full time stewarding (dish washing).
Only full time servers, bartenders, cooks and host/hostess remain to keep the operation running when Epcot reopens. We have heard In addition, a little less than half of their managers still remain. If restaurants are only allowed to seat at 50% capacity, thus you only need 50% of your staff, this does not come as a surprise.
