As if we didn’t already know, the most amazing themed entertainment projects are coming to Asia. Today, Studio City was announced for Macau by the Melco Crown Entertainment Group who already own City of Dreams there. City of Dreams is a mega casino/hotel complex that includes the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, the Grand Hyatt Macau and is home to the House of Dancing Water, which is sort of the sequel to Le Reve at the Wynn Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, which you’ve heard me rave about several times on this site.
For starters, the group released a trailer for a short film called “The Audition” starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro and Brad Pitt. It was directed by Martin Scorsese and produced by Brett Ratner, who has produced movies like the “Rush Hour” franchise. While the full film won’t launch until mid-2015 when Studio City opens, click on the trailer below to get a sneak peak.
All of that star power not impressive for you? How about Asia’s largest ferris wheel in the form of a figure eight (a lucky number in Macau)? The Golden Eye will be 180 meters tall and is inspired by two asteroids blasting through a Gotham City building. Speaking of Batman…
The complex will have a family entertainment center which will devote 30,000 square feet to entertaining families and children. Studio City has the rights to DC Comics, but Looney Tunes and Hanana Barbara as well and they will all be combined in one unique dark ride experience. Batman Dark Flight will be a motion ride through the streets of Gotham based on the film franchise, yet another first. In addition, they will have go-carts based on Wonder Woman and The Flash.
Still not interested? Magician Franz Harary will host The House of Magic, a show featuring him and other illusionists from around the world in a location that is being promised to be the premier place to showcase magic around the world.
In total, $3.2 billion US dollars will be invested in the entire complex which will feature 1,600 rooms between two towers which will feature a lazy river, shopping, dining and much more. Also, did I mention this is being designed by The Goddard Group who will also be creating the new Cirque du Soleil theme park in Mexico? They have a lot on their plate, for sure.
