Mystery Experiences brings the fun of an escape room to your mailbox

As loyal readers of Theme Park University know, we have covered many escape rooms since they have started exploding across North America. There are literally thousands of ways to create themed puzzles and clues to fulfill an objective. It makes sense that monthly mail order companies are starting to cash in on this trend. Recently, I tried Mystery Experiences out for myself and got to do one of these adventures from the comfort of my own living room.

What is great about this is that each package is personalized to you as an individual. As soon as I signed up, I got an e-mail from the Forrest Law Firm informing me that I just inherited a huge mansion from a relative of mine and received all kinds of documents regarding my newfound jackpot.

As it turns out, a distant relative named Mary Lancaster left ME a huge mansion and I even got a copy of her will and last testament to prove it. As I dug deeper into my packet, I received a newspaper clipping chronicling her recent death which gave me some insight on my new home.

The home I have supposedly inherited is a take on a real life story known as the Winchester Mystery House located in California. The widow of the man who founded Winchester rifles went to a psychic who told the woman to keep building onto her house to give the ghosts who were shot by her late husband’s guns a place to go.  The end result is a house filled with staircases leading nowhere and hallways that serve no purpose and is now a tourist attraction.

At any rate, the Mystery Experiences company sent me a second package shortly after the first. The second contained elaborate puzzles I had to solve and decode in order to dig into the mystery. It contained vintage photographs, handwritten notes and even small trinkets.
