On a recent trip to Boston, I decided to “hops” on into Sam Adams and take their brewery tour because who doesn’t love free stuff?
The Sam Adams Brewery Tour departs roughly every 45 minutes and last about an hour. Sam Adams asks for a $2 donation for the tour which is not required and goes to local charities.
While the tour itself contains all the actual equipment it takes to make Sam Adams beer, the space is now used as more of a test kitchen than for mass production.
You’ll even get a chance to smell different types of hops, which are used to make beer, as well as taste various flavors of barley.
Not surprisingly, the real star of the show is the Sam Adams tasting room.
You’ll learn everything from how to distinguish between various types of beer by color and aroma. In total, you will sample three Sam Adams beers while in the tasting room and they vary from season to season.
Even the glass you drink beer from can affect the temperature and carbonation. Who knew? By the way, the glass you’re given on your tour is yours to take home as a free souvenir!
While advance reservations aren’t needed for the Sam Adams Brewery Tour, you may need to show up early in the day to make sure you have a slot for a tour, especially on weekends.
Not surprising, all attractions must end in a gift shop and the Sam Adams Brewery Tour is no different. You’ll get a chance to buy sweatshirts, glasses and dozens of other items with the Sam Adams logo.
