Are you in love with “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” like the rest of the world? Turns out, the film has been recreated in the form of a walk-through exhibit that just opened in Seoul, South Korea. The Star Wars Rogue One Experience has enough to make any Star Wars fan salivate from virtual reality to floating spacecraft and beyond.
In order to achieve all of these custom special effects, there are very few people in the industry as well-versed as master illusionist Franz Harary, who served as Creative Director on the project. I recently got a chance to talk to Harary, just after a show at his House of Magic in Macau, about how this project came about. “Well, I got a call back in September from a company in South Korea that I’ve worked with before and that was my calling card,” remarked Harary.
“Before this project, I wasn’t a huge Star Wars fan, but I certainly am now!,” he added. Franz has worked on projects for Universal Studios, Disney and Hard Rock Park, in addition to his House of Magic in Macau. He has created large-scale illusions for mega-stars like Missy Elliot, Justin Bieber, Michael Jackson and dozens of others.
For the Star Wars Rogue One Experience, Harary flew every Monday from performing at the House of Magic in Macau to Seoul so he could oversee the project. Guests who visit the exhibit will get to experience a unique virtual reality experience created just for this attraction. You’ll also see an augmented reality version of the Death Star and a floating TIE Fighter hovering in mid-air!
Considering that this is a temporary exhibit, it could pack up and move from city to city, but for now you’ve got to travel to Seoul to try out the Star Wars Rogue One Experience!
