Pixar kicks Captain EO to the curb at Epcot on December 6 2015

Captain EO

It was only a matter of time. As we reported on earlier this year, Captain EO retuned to Epcot after taking a hiatus to promote Disney’s summer flop “Tomorrowland”, followed by the blockbuster “Inside Out” by showing brief clips from those films. Michael Jackson and crew returned to the Magic Eye Theater in late July 2015, despite many fan sites already trumpeting it would never appear again.

Now the Disney Parks blog has confirmed the fears of tens of people, Captain EO will have its final performance at Epcot on December 6 2015. Replacing the cult classic will be the Disney & Pixar Short Film Festival. Which seems to be a repackaging of Pixar shorts that utilize the special effects inside the Magic Eye Theater, including 3D, to try and drive butts to the seats.

As much as I’ll personally miss Captain EO, it’s time to put it to bed. However, if there isn’t one already, I look forward to seeing the petitions crop up over the next week to try and save the film. If it gets more signatures than an entire theater full of guests at the Magic Eye theater before December 6, I’ll eat my shoes.

Why don’t they run both shows for part of the day- Short films for the first part of the day followed by EO for the second part of the day (with an hour inbetween so that the entire que for the first showing be satisfied)?
