Very quietly, just days after Shanghai Disneyland’s grand opening, a new attraction debuted that might go unnoticed by many people.
On the path between Mickey Avenue and Tomorrowland is an entrance for the Walt Disney Grand Theatre. What this is designed to do is give people an easier way to get to The Lion King performance at night without having to go around the park, which it still serves that purpose. Keep in mind, the Lion King is a Broadway production that requires a separate ticket for admission.
However, on certain days, the theater is now showing Mickey Mouse cartoon shorts for free in an attraction called Mickey’s Film Festival.
If you don’t have time (0r money) to see The Lion King, this is a great way to see the Walt Disney Theatre without having to pay for a full price ticket to that show, if you’re already in Shanghai Disneyland.
There are no showtimes for Mickey’s Film Festival. The cartoons pretty much just loop continuously throughout the day.
Personally, I think it’s a great way to offer an indoor attraction with an enormous capacity and it’s also a great way to preview the theater.
Another thing to keep in mind is this is just the beginning for the park. In the future, they could put an actual show in the theater as long as it doesn’t interfere with The Lion King at night.
