After nearly 20 years of performances, Cirque du Soleil’s La Nouba at Disney Springs is taking its final bow on December 31, 2017. In a push to extend Downtown Disney’s presence, this one-of-a-kind show debuted on December 23, 1998.
La Nouba was the first “residency” show created by Cirque du Soleil after Mystere and O opened in Las Vegas (and are still playing to this day!) After nearly 10,000 performances and several changes in the acts within the show, the decision was made to start from scratch and create something entirely new from Cirque du Soleil.
Behind the scenes, I’ve been told that Cirque du Soleil and Disney have been negotiating for years about the fate of La Nouba. Alternative ideas have been rumored from having a rotating Broadway style show within the theater to having a new “permanent” show like The Lion King in Shanghai Disneyland before the deal was finally done to create an entirely new show at Disney Springs.
While I love La Nouba and all things Cirque du Soleil, I am beyond excited to see a new Cirque production in Orlando. Your thoughts?
