How Many Character Dance Parties Does Hollywood Studios Need?

Disney is considered the gold standard in theme parks, right? People still flock to Walt Disney World Resort in record numbers. And why? Attention to detail. Picture it: you walk up to the gates of Disney’s Hollywood Studios. In the courtyard you hear classic instrumental soundtracks from some of the greatest films of all time.

You reach the main entrance of the park, a throwback to classic Hollywood architecture. A nearly identical replica of the old entrance of the Pan Pacific Auditorium. Once inside, you’ll find throwbacks to all kinds of classic Hollywood, such as the Crossroads of the World, with a small Disney touch: Mickey Mouse at the top!

Disney's Hollywood Studios

You’re surrounded by Hollywood’s Golden Era. You’ve literally been transported 75 years into the past. And then you hear it: “Because you know, I’m all about that bass, ’bout that bass – no treble…..”

Good news, Disney purists! You got your wish. The Sorcerer Hat no longer blocks the view of the Chinese Theater. Bad news: Nearly all hours of the day you’re being bombarded by a character dance party. To be fair, these things are very popular. Walk around and you’ll very rarely see someone in a bad mood. Happy dance music and Disney characters is a surefire combination to make guests satisfied.

In case you somehow didn’t get your fix of this, you can now walk into Club Disney at the end of Sunset Boulevard and get your fill of… the exact same thing. Sure, it’s in a nightclub setting instead of a street party like the one found on Hollywood Boulevard.

And if you happen to be staying on property and didn’t get enough of this during the day, you’ll be pleased to hear that Extra Magic Hours has got you covered. Playhouse Disney Dance Party represents the third character dance party you can do in one day at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

I’m not saying character dance parties are bad entertainment. To the contrary, the public seems to love them. However, having three of them in the same park is a bit of overkill. In my opinion? Disney can do better and diversify their offerings. Your thoughts?
